Scoble's Tips on Presenting (Oct 17 2003 17:51 GMT) - Robert Scoble provides tips on how to present to a technical audience. Good tips all around, though I always save something neat until the end as well. Most people remember the bookends- what came at the beginning and the end. :) [Listening to: |

October 17, 2003 (Oct 17 2003 17:49 GMT) - Developers Developers Developers Developers Ok, the video of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in the advanced stages of ecstatic frenzy chanting the "Developers" mantra was funny, but his company took it seriously, and Microsoft really does a better job than any other platform vendor encouraging small companies to write software that runs on the Windows platform. If you're a software company willing to commit to developing software for any variant of Windows, you can join the Empower Program for ISVs, which entitles you a huge pile of software at the ridiculously low price of $750. You get 5 copies of MSDN Universal (normally $2600 each) ... this is the package that includes top-of-the-line versions of every single Microsoft development tool and compiler, and Office, and Visio, and developer copies of every server product, and the MSDN library, and copies of every operating system ever shipped (Greek Windows 98SE? |

How to machine gun yourself in the foot (Oct 17 2003 17:48 GMT) - The general leading the hunt for Bin Laden is a serious Christian fundamentalist. This is not in itself a problem, except that he believes, and says, stuff like- "I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real god and his was an idol." |

Random Seed (Oct 17 2003 17:48 GMT) - My class is unceremoniously trudging along. I'm not particularly enjoying this one course. The professor seems to "teach" in absentia, if at all. One particular classmate on my learning team is annoyingly liverish. I'm halfway through now so I'm already looking forward to the end. |

clicking to fund mammograms (Oct 17 2003 17:48 GMT) - Maybe you're familiar with the The Hunger Site, where you can click once a day and money will be donated to help end hunger. The people behind The Hunger Site also have The Breast Cancer Site, which funds free mammograms for women in need. October is Breast Cancer Awarness Month and the site is doubling the donation for every click. About five years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram. Thanks to early detection and treatment, she is currently free of cancer, al-hamdulillah. |

Finland might let parents track kids via cellphones (Oct 17 2003 17:48 GMT) - The Finnish parliament is thinking about passing a new law which would let parents track their children via their cellphones, without their consent, but only up until age 15. Once they turn 15, kids could be tracked by their parents only if they agree to it. And what self-respecting teenager would agree to that? Read [Thanks, Mike]... |
