On Message (Oct 17 2003 18:53 GMT) - To follow up Jesse's post about that interesting Stars and Stripes article, here's Iron Mike Kinsley on President Bush's media defiltration strategy: Bush's beef about news from Iraq is a variation on the famous complaint that the media never report about all the planes that land safely. And it's true: Many American soldiers have not been killed since the war officially ended. You rarely read stories about all the electricity that works, or the many Iraqis who aren't shouting anti-American slogans. |

the curse lives on (Oct 17 2003 18:53 GMT) - despite an incredible 2003 alcs last night where the yankees reigned triumphant in the bottom half of the 11th inning on aaron boone's solo blast. after musina gave us 3 innings of shutout relief, wells game us 3 outs in relief, jeter started the 8th inning rally with a big double, jorge shoved it down pedro's skinny little throat and mariano the great gave us 3 innings of relief for the win. boston conceded the alcs the moment the 1st piece of chalk writing the 2003 w.s. logo behind home plate at fenway. |

Rumors about OL (Oct 17 2003 18:52 GMT) - I have always enjoyed hearing the many rumors about me and have tried to not confirm or deny any of them, often saying yes or no at random. I have also been guilty of encouraging rumors and even (gasp!) seeding them.....Here then let us deposit any rumors you may have heard in the comment section for this entry. I will create a link to this entry on the right side of the blog for easy access... |

eBay Scammer Sends Photos Of Item (Oct 17 2003 18:52 GMT) - There are some "smart" eBay scams and then there are the dumb eBay scams. I still can't figure out how the people who sell things and then just never send the item get away with it, but what sort of person sells expensive ($1,500 - $5,500) TVs on eBay and then tries to mock his victims by sending them a photo of the TV, instead of the TV itself? Not a very smart person, that's clear. The article doesn't have much in the way of details, but I imagine the guy thought it was all a very funny joke, and probably worded his eBay ad in an ambiguous way to imply that it was the actual TV, but could also fulfill the terms of the sale with a photo. Found at Mike Wendland's blog. |

Say it ain't so, Mike (Oct 17 2003 18:50 GMT) - I know he's been irrelevant for years and years, but Michael Stipe rocked my world 20 years ago and I have a tremendous amount of respect for his work through about 1987.So it was a bit of a shock to see his "celebrity playlist" at the Apple Music store and find Justin Timberlake on it. Here's hoping that either his publicist did the list for him, or he's got Alzheimer's. |

iChat AV quality confuses media outlet; reports Bono, Jagger appeared via satellite at Apple music event (Oct 17 2003 18:48 GMT) - iChat AV is so good, it seems at least one media outlet, TechWeb, thought Mick Jagger and Bono were chatting with Apple CEO Steve Jobs via satellite. "Apple launched a Windows version of its popular iTunes online music storeon Thursday, updated the iPod digital music player, and announced an exclusive deal with America Online. In a splashy presentation that brought rock stars Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones and Bono of the group U2 onto the stage via satellite link, CEO Steve... |
