Magistrate Fails to Revisit Still Bail Condition On Detained Journalist And 2 Others (Oct 17 2003 19:14 GMT) - While Magistrate Sam Margai Thursday failed to grant a request in courtcalling for bail conditions for detained journalist, Paul Kamara and 2others to be reduced, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has writtena letter to president Kabbah expressing their concerns on the criminalcharges brought against the managing editor of the 'For Di People'newspaper, and three staff members of the John Love Printing Press, whichprints the paper. |

Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) Okays Spanish Firm to Manage Mint (Oct 17 2003 19:14 GMT) - THE Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has selected Real Casa De LaMoneda, a Spanish company, to run the Nigerian Security Printing and MintingCompany (NSPMC) as management contractor, director-General of the BPE,Dr. Julius Bala, announced yesterday in Abuja. The decision is a reversal ofgovernment's earlier position to sell 51 per cent of its shares in the Mintto a core investor and then later sell part of its equity to the Nigerianpublic. |

National Broadcasting Commission Moves to Bring NTA Under Control (Oct 17 2003 19:14 GMT) - FOR those presently worried about the over-bearing attitude of the NTA,respite is on the way as the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), lastweek, hinted that a new Bill before the National Assembly will put an end toall that. The Bill when passed into law will properly empower the NBC tostrictly regulate the entire sector including the NTA and thus makecompetition in the broadcast industry to be more interesting. |
