Country Deposits Instrument of Ratification of the Peace and Security Council (Oct 17 2003 20:14 GMT) - The Republic of Senegal today became the 19th Member State of theAfrican Union to deposit the instrument of ratification of the Protocolrelating to the establishment of the Peace and Security Council. ThePermanent Representative of the Republic of Senegal to the African Union,Ambassador Mame Balla SY on behalf of his Government deposited theinstrument to the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union,Prof. Alpha Omar Konare. |

Suspected Colombia Rebels Kill Activist (Oct 17 2003 20:14 GMT) - Suspected paramilitary gunmen shot and killed a women's rights activist in northern Colombia, her group said Friday. The attackers forced Esperanza Amaris, 40, the local head of the Popular Feminist Organization out of her home late Thursday and shot her shortly afterward, said the organization's spokeswoman, Yolanda Becerra. |
