Kernel madness (Oct 19 2003 21:12 GMT) - David's first attempt at building a 2.6 kernel for spies did not succeed. It actually got a long way into the boot before encountering a problem with (ceej growls) ReiserFS. Or maybe with swap. Filesystem problem, anyway: |

Maiden voyage (Oct 19 2003 21:12 GMT) - The new Helimot suit and I went on a maiden voyage today. I didn't want my first serious riding experience in it to be on the track Wednesday. I did the squid loop: up Pagemill to Skyline, fast run along Skyline to Woodside, down Woodside to Whiskey Hill, then over to Sand Hill and home.Pagemill is slow and technical. |

Kernel needs anxiety meds (Oct 19 2003 21:12 GMT) - Or something. Spies's kernel has panicked twice today after a long period of faithful service. We're building a new one, and hoping it isn't a hardware problem. Sometime soon, when I feel energetic, I'll migrate us off of using ReiserFS, which I have come to despise, and onto ext3. Bad decision, there. |

Magic waive Alton Ford (Oct 19 2003 21:12 GMT) - Alton Ford has been released by the Magic. The move was not unexpected as the Magic make a move to trim the roster for the start of the season. Sasser will most likely be the next player released. The final spot is up for grabs, I am expecting Doc to cut Steven Hunter. |

Praise the Coleman (Oct 19 2003 21:09 GMT) - Before shutting down for the night, I should sing my praise for the Coleman power generator with its 10 HP Briggs & Stratton engine. It consumes a good bit of gas, and the noise, without much muffling surroundings where it stands, is an important reason to shut it off for the night and much of the day. But the thing runs reliably and feeds a lot of PCs, fridge and freezer, router, DSL modem, radio and TV, even the occasional coffee pot. |

No Power at Homes (Oct 19 2003 21:09 GMT) - WTOP keeps asking the power companies for answers. No power at home remains true for more than 300,000 PEPCO customers – 336,000 at 7 pm. No light on the keyboard, so this blog is shutting down for the night. Let's hope there won't be any new accidents. |

Thoughts on OSU Victory over Iowa (Oct 19 2003 21:09 GMT) - So OSU wins another squeaker, 19-10 over Iowa. Some reflections: An absolutely smothering defensive effort. Iowa couldn't run, couldn't consistently pass, couldn't do anything. The team is having a championship-quality year on defense with the exception of a few breakdowns last week Gamble continues to under-perform on defense. |

Is This Thing On? (Oct 19 2003 21:09 GMT) - There was a big blank spot in my blog for a couple of weeks. Part of it was due to trying to ramp up to speed as to what was going on at my job. Then there was the whole cellphone toilet bowl fiasco and a delay in my first... |

Little Sodbury (Fieldnotes by Earthstepper) (Oct 19 2003 21:08 GMT) - Accessible from Little Sodbury and Old Sodbury, but don't try the footpaths from the A46 as they are invisible beneath crops! I parked by Old Sodbury church and took the footpath opposite that goes along the left side of the village school. This is the Cotswold Way and is well marked. Keep to the left as the path skirts a steep hill and then, when a wood is reached, turn right and climb steeply up the hill. The land towards the A46 is quite flat and the fort is defended by two banks and a ditch. |
