Revolt from the Heartland: The Struggle for an Authentic Conservatism (Oct 19 2003 23:31 GMT) - I am fascinated by the "taxonomy" of the conservative movement. I am interested in, and have studied, the political and intellectual history of the movement. And not infrequently I have been drawn into the internecine quarrels of conservatism. These fights seem to have intensified and deepened with the end of the Cold War and the Republican Majority. Massachussetts to MS: Drop Dead (Oct 19 2003 23:28 GMT) - The Massachussetts state government has adopted an open source/open standards policy for IT purchases. Massachussetts was, as I recall, the last holdout state in the MS anti-trust suit, so this is another shot across MS' bow from the state. Watch this whole story unfold nastily over the next few years - and watch politics drive it more than technical merit (and that would be different from the rest of the IT sector how, I wonder?) |

Information Week: Staring Down Linux (Oct 19 2003 23:24 GMT) - Information Week has an interesting articled called Staring Down Linux that has some thoughtful points about how Microsoft plans to play the game when dealing with customers and partners and Linux. Not surprisingly, the word uncooperative describes much of their "strategy." Also, read the embedded surveys on why customers choose Linux vs. why Microsoft. Pretty interesting stuff. |
