Media Player Recently Played List and clearing it (Oct 20 2003 17:05 GMT) - Windows Media Player's (WMP) file menu shows a list with the most recetly played files. To prevent WMP 8.0 (and later) from maintaining this list: (1)Start the Registry Editor (2)Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft MediaPlayer Preferences key (3)From the menu select Edit > New > Binary Value (4)Name the new value AddToMRU (5)Right-click the AddToMRU value and choose Modify (6)In the Value Data: box enter 00 (7)Exit the registry editor To reverse, just delete the new AddToMRU value (or set the value to 01). |

Increase number of download sessions in IE (Oct 20 2003 17:05 GMT) - By default Internet Explorer restricts the number of downloads to 2. You can follow the tip below increase the number of connections. (1)Start the Registry Editor (2)Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Internet Settings (3)Select New > DWORD Value from the Edit menu (4)Name the new value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server (5)Right-click the MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server value and choose Modify (6)Under Base, click the radio button next to Decimal (7)In the Value Data: box enter the number of simultaneous connections you want to set (for example 10 is a good value), and click OK If you want to increase the number of connections to the server you can repeat steps 3 - 7 using the new value MaxConnectionsPerServer Exit the registry editor Remember you are modifying registry as always be careful! |

OAI for Blogs (Oct 20 2003 17:01 GMT) - Is OAI support useful for a blog? I love my aggregator to death but it strikes me that a gazillion RSS feeds is starting to be overwhelming. Linking to PDFs: Not the Best of Form (Oct 20 2003 17:01 GMT) - I posted a comment to Mark Jordan's "Self-Education of Systems Librians" concerning the fact that Mark linked to a PDF. I asserted that linking to a PDF is like posting html to a news group, not the best of form. Dan welcomed me to the group by claiming that my comment was not helpful. I apologize if I offended.
