Free Market Fairy Tales (Oct 22 2003 00:58 GMT) - Michael at Free Market Fairy Tales has this to say about Socialism and Communism: Call it what you will, it is all about redistributionist economics – the guy with the AK47 knows better than the market. This misguided and flawed economic thinking has brought us what; 30 million dead in China during the “Great Leap Forward”, 6 million dead in the Ukraine so that farms could be collectivised and 6 million dead in Cambodia’s “Killing Fields”. Oh yes, it also caused the small matter of the... |

It's Easy To Sign Up Anyone For The Do Not Call List (Oct 22 2003 00:58 GMT) - Earlier this month, I wondered why it was so easy to find anyone's phone number on the Do-Not-Call list. Since the list appeared to be open, it sounded like it was ripe for abuse. Of course, not only is it easy to find out if someone is on the list, it's easy to add anyone to the list - even accidentally. The Washington Post tried to look up whether or not the phone numbers of certain judges (who might hear cases about the list) were on the list already. However, they got confused by the interface and screwed up, accidentally adding those phone numbers to the list. |

Bring 'em on?! (Oct 22 2003 00:57 GMT) - It's confirmed. Up to 30,000 more reservists will be sent to Iraq. Just in time, perhaps, because it looks like Iraqi officials are going to try charging Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr with the murder of Abdel Majid al-Khoei, who was stabbed to death by a mob shortly after returning to Iraq in April of this year.Arresting al-Sadr is a big, big risk, in that it assumes that the US can discredit the one person in Iraq who dares to oppose the US. Not only could it foment a great deal of unrest, as Sadr has over a million supporters, but it could also encourage those angry at the US presence in their country to follow someone a whole lot smarter and more prone to violence than al-Sadr. |
