Aunt Flo comes to call (Oct 22 2003 19:59 GMT) - So during my lunch outing today I walked through Love Park. Some of you may remember that in June vandals dyed the fountain fuschia, and then the city decided it was a great idea and experimented with a Tidy Bowl blue fountain. At the beginning of the month the city dyed the fountain water bubble gum pink in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From a distance, it's kind of pretty. Up close it looks nasty. |

Kassel (Oct 22 2003 19:58 GMT) - I have yet to begin my intended response to the already-innumerable responses to Sebald's On the Natural History of Destruction. It's difficult to find the way in. But today's Guardian reinforces my resolve to find a way. We're told ā we need to be told ā |

Expletive deleted (Oct 22 2003 19:56 GMT) - It has been taboo for more than 500 years. But from fcuk to Four Weddings and a Funeral, the f-word has become so commonplace it now seems acceptable in everyday conversation. Is it no longer obscene? And if it isn't, what is? Guardian reporter Jonathan Margolis investigates: |

Rocket Mania Puzzle Game (Oct 22 2003 19:56 GMT) - An excellent puzzle game involving connecting rockets to their fuzes -- similar to a "line up the train tracks" game, but with PopCap's signature twist. One of the best games of its type that I've played in a long time, and very easy to get into. |

MPx200 sound quality (Oct 22 2003 19:54 GMT) - Hmm...this phone comes with both a mono headset and a stereo headset. Which teased me into thinking that the phone, plus a large SD card, would make an awesome MP3 player. However, using the stereo headset, the sound quality leaves something to be desired. There's pretty much no bass response whatsoever. |

Google Keywords (Oct 22 2003 19:54 GMT) - I'm usually always amazed at where I show up in Google rankings for certain keywords. More often then not, people searching for extremely bizarre things end up here, and I get a real kick at looking at my server's log files for Google hits. A while back, I figured out a way to isolate just the Google hits into a log file, and when I recently rebuilt my webserver, completely lost that trick. I will document it here so I never forget again. First off, I only know how to do this in Apache 1. |

Department of "Huh?" (Oct 22 2003 19:53 GMT) - National Review outdoes The Onion on this one! The smart and usually sane (for a believing supply-sider, that is) Bruce Bartlett goes off the deep end with an enormous SPLASH!!!!, and in the process demonstrates that his comparative advantage is not Bible commentary. He argues that the estate tax makes the Baby Jesus cry, and that Jesus was the first supply-sider, acknowledging "the value of wealthy people to society as a whole": Bruce Bartlett on the Estate Tax on NRO Financial: |
