In the next few months, ... (Oct 23 2003 05:59 GMT) - In the next few months, everything could turn into the beginning of one marvelous dream with the business, or crash and burn into nothingness. But tonight, tonight at least, I feel strangely serene. As if I'm in some precise temporal bubble, where nothing can harm me regardless, success or failure. Last night, while I was sitting outside listening to Sigur Ros, the car engine off, enjoying nuances I'd never heard before, the fingers on the bass string, the breathing of a singer, even the slight hiss of the original tape, I noticed when I pulled the CD player cover off after track 4, that the CD was already 35 seconds into track five, 35 seconds I have no account of. And when I got back in the car, the track started at -12 seconds, and then went to 4 seconds, before starting again at 0. |

Knoppix (Oct 23 2003 05:55 GMT) - Oh my gosh, now I gotta try Knoppix. Something for me to do over the weekend. If I can run EditPlus on WINE, then my problem of not having a text editor I like on Linux can go away, and I might be able to switch my primary OS to Linux. |

Mobile Application Download Managers (Oct 23 2003 05:55 GMT) - I got an email this morning about Handango's new Application Shop application for SonyEricson Symbian phones. This is *very* cool and is akin, if you think about it, to iTunes for your phone. You don't need to use a browser (which can be slow and tedious on a phone) you can just work through the menu of options, choose cool new apps and download them instantly. I've seen demos lately of other technologies that work similarly and I think it's a kick-ass way to provide applications to mobiles. I'm of the opinion that most apps for phones are - for now - disposable applications. |
