Career Journal reports rising needs for corporate librarians (Oct 23 2003 06:59 GMT) - Both Darci Chapman and Katie have been reading Career Journal: Corporate librarians are seeing demand for their services increase from last year's rock-bottom levels. As 2003 has progressed, recruiters say they've been filling more openings for mid- to upper-level corporate librarians than in 2002, when headcounts in corporate information centers were being reduced. Some of the hiring is for librarians to work in such industries as biotechnology that weren't badly hurt by the recession. Other librarians are being recruited to replace staff members who were laid off to cut costs during the downturn. |

Books used in Tallest Book Tower go missing (Oct 23 2003 06:59 GMT) - An odd story out of Malaysia, where More than 2,000 books, used to adorn the tallest book tower as a tribute to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Putrajaya Convention Centre, are missing. A Putrajaya district police headquarters spokesman said that police would view footage from a closed-circuit camera television to identify those who had taken the books, which have a face value of about RM70,000. The drawing by Tony Pardo, the son of Jose and Asuncion Pardo, was selected from a total of 66 student entries. The logo will be used on posters and handouts. The winner was chosen by the Visioning process Steering Committee from 12 finalists. Tony is a student in Jorge De La Os class at McKevett. |
