America owes talk host Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude (Oct 23 2003 17:32 GMT) - The entire nation owes radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say, because his ordeal has exposed every drug warrior in America as a rank hypocrite. "Republican and Democratic politicians have written laws that have condemned more than 400,000 Americans to prison for committing the same 'crime' as Rush Limbaugh," Seehusen pointed out. "If this pill-popping pontificator deserves a get-out-of-jail-free card, these drug warriors had better explain why. |

Another question to ponder: Is ... (Oct 23 2003 17:32 GMT) - Another question to ponder: Is the rising divorce rates among people today caused by a decline in morals or is it simply the fact that modern day humans are in contact with more people than at any other point in our history and thus we can more easily see our reproductive "options," leading us to inevitably question our choices? As little as a century ago, most of us would live in a village and never venture outside of it. Our family circle was extremely close knit and divorce would be a terribly socially rending activity. Now with frequent moving, a lack of a social group exerting significant social pressure, and a family that is often far removed, I would argue that the cost of divorce is negligible. |

The Great Game Boy Swindle (Oct 23 2003 17:32 GMT) - Malcolm McLaren (remember him?) has discovered chip music, a semi-legal genre created by "reverse engineering an electronic interface -- whether it's a Game Boy or a computer's sound chip -- and subverting its original design." If you're curious what it sounds like, you can listen to some on this site. I'd describe it as existing somewhere on the continuum between Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and some kid fucking with a Casio. If that's your thing, dig in. |
