Get A Mac (Oct 24 2003 00:07 GMT) - Sick of the endless patches, fear of viruses and worms? I am, which is why I use a Mac at home, though work forces me to use a Windows machine. Ever since Apple went to a Unix-based OS, they've been producing computers that are more stable and secure than any Windows machine. Now the WSJ tech columnist is recommending them for small business use. Not a bad idea and they'll be especially useful once the G5 processor is available in all models. |

Jurisdiction Over Guantanamo (Oct 24 2003 00:04 GMT) - Michael Froomkin seems to think that America's judges have made a big mistake in claiming that they have no jurisdiction to enforce the Constitution, the laws of the United States of America, or the common law in Guantanamo Bay. It's hard to read the 1903 and 1934 treaties between the U.S. and Cuba as doing anything other than granting such jurisdiction to the federal courts. Discourse. |

He is forced to answer "Yes" to the question "Does an economist who reads the Economist and a smattering of the European press really know more about Afghan politics than Donald Rumsfeld?" This makes Robert worry that perhaps our future is not in the best of hands. robert's random thoughts: I can't believe I am posting a link to Fox News but that's where Rumsfield's memo is posted. |
