Why Tablet PCs cost so much # (Oct 24 2003 13:34 GMT) - Category: Laptops/PCs The president of Acer is saying that the reason why Tablet PCs cost so much is that Microsoft is charging manufacturers too much for the Tablet PC version of the Windows XP operating system. He says that turning a regular laptop into a Tablet PC costs only an extra $200 or so, but that only $30 to $60 of that are additional hardware costs. The balance consists of licensing fees for the operating system, and that is what's making it so hard for companies to drop prices on their Tablet PCs. |
