Unusual Privacy Protest (Oct 26 2003 23:21 GMT) - Protesting Citigroup's privacy policies, a group hired a skywriting plane to write the first five digits of the CEO's Social Security number over their corporate HQ. That should get their attention. There's a lengthy backstory in this fairly in-depth Wired article. |

New Amazon.com stores being tested (Oct 26 2003 23:21 GMT) - Apparently in late 2002, Amazon.com was testing some new types of stores they were thinking about opening. While the idea was ultimately canned, here we have a screenshot of what the store looked like for the limited test customer base that was participating in the trials. |

extensions poll (Oct 26 2003 23:20 GMT) - I don't actually have any polling stuff set up here at my mozillaZine-hosted blog but I'm low-traffic enough to do a quick poll within comments I think. Which best describes you? These questions apply to both SeaMonkey users and Firebird users. I never install extensions. I rarely try extensions and never use them regularly. |

Passive Voice (Oct 26 2003 23:20 GMT) - I do not understand why writing in a passive voice is so bad. Every other sentence I write is written passively, and I cannot figure out why I should really care. The argument given to me about passive voice being grammatically incorrect is that it sounds awkward and people do not think that way. Well guess what... I must think passively, because every sentence I write is passive. |

Google AdWords in trouble again (Oct 26 2003 23:18 GMT) - Following a first case, Louis Vuitton is suing Google France for trademark infringement. And according to the AP, it's only the beginning: An official at France's Software Protection Agency, which gathers evidence for court hearings on piracy and trademark infringement, said several major companies are preparing cases against Google. The official spoke on condition of anonymity. IANAL, but since trademark infringement is way more complex than stepping on one's exact trademark, Google may not get out of trouble by just a technical counter-measure such as not selling registered trademarks. |
