Blogging from my hotel (Oct 26 2003 23:14 GMT) - After being in three different European countries in two days its great t be able to blog from the comfort of my hotel room. I was lucky enough to be delayed at Heathrow the other day so that in fact from my waiting lounge window I got a perfect view of the last three commercial landings of concorde. This made me think of several things. 1stly life is about being in the right place at the right time and mostly that is about luck. 2nd despite the first point those who suceed in life are those who make the best of what luck throws their way. |

Macros (Oct 26 2003 23:14 GMT) - The latest experiment in Tinderbox Labs is macros. It's a small convenience, and it adds substantial complexity; it will be interesting to see if it proves worthwhile. |

Stewart Brand (Oct 26 2003 23:14 GMT) - Earlier this month at the Foo Camp, I screwed up and I€™m still feeling bad about it. I found myself sitting around a fire with one of my truly major influences, and I couldn€™t manage to compose even a few feeble words of thanks to someone who made a big difference in my life. This is by way of trying to make up for it a bit... |

Pictures of those three new Nokia cellphones (Oct 26 2003 23:13 GMT) - Some photos have turned up of those three new cellphones that Nokia is set to announce next week: the 6230 (left), which will have a built-in digital camera, Bluetooth, and an FM tuner; the 6820, which looks like it'll be Nokia's follow-up to the 6800 (we'd seen this called the 6850, as well), which improves on its predecessor by adding both Bluetooth and a digital camera; and that fake Louis Vuitton-styled 7200 we had a picture of the other day. Wedding and more Cabin pics (Oct 26 2003 23:12 GMT) - I went to Mary Ellen's wedding last night. Never been to Catholic mass before, so it was an interesting experience. At any rate, check out the pics. Also, we've got some previously unpublished pictures from the weekend at the cabin that you'll want to see. Adam added topic icons to his blog entries and I followed suit. |

Latest Open-Source Revolution: Tech Support (Oct 26 2003 23:10 GMT) - Historically, proprietary-software companies have maintained much more highly developed customer-support infrastructures than open-source software firms. Providing a user purchased the right contract, tech help would be just a phone call away. The best that open-source software could offer, on the other hand, was uncertainty. |

Reversing the Broadcast Flow (Oct 26 2003 23:10 GMT) - Ed Cone blogs about a comment thread on the John Edwards blog that altered Edwards' stump speech. Ed writes: Elizabeth Edwards commented here that comments on her husband's campaign blog serve to inform him about people's real concerns. I ask for an example. She replies with a specific example about the Earned Income Tax Credit that led to Edwards refocusing on the issue: |
