Third explosion detail (Oct 27 2003 06:58 GMT) - CNN says that the other explosion was a car bomb outside another Iraqi police station. The source on this is a top Iraqi police official. I'm going to bed. Details will coalesce by morning. Until then, consult the boards. |

Blast update (Oct 27 2003 06:58 GMT) - This appears to be about the second bomb, near the Ministry of Industry (from Reuters): Minutes later, a second explosion hit the Shaab district in northern Baghdad. Reuters reporters said a fire engine was spraying water on a badly burnt-out building. Two cars were on fire outside the building, which locals said was a police station. An Iraqi policeman said it was a suicide bombing. |

ICRC update (Oct 27 2003 06:58 GMT) - New AP video shows US soldiers cordoning off the area around the Red Cross. The crawler on MSNBC says that Reuters reports 3 dead in the ICRC bomb. AFP reports that a Red Cross employee has confirmed that the blast there was caused by an Iraqi hospital ambulance which rammed into a barricaed outside the building, and that "the blast killed at least one ICRC employee and injured at least two others." |

New blast (Oct 27 2003 06:58 GMT) - Jane Araaf says witnesses are saying the ICRC blast was cause by an ambulance which exploded when it hit a barricade. She also says that contrary to initial reports that at least one of the buildings in the Red Cross compound is heavily damaged, but the main Red Cross building is not. Meanwhile, another explosion has been heard in southwest Baghdad. No details yet. |
