Große Funkenfeuer Zitierwoche, Teil n (Oct 27 2003 22:05 GMT) - Of course, you must not be fascinated by the computer. It's a tool. You must be fascinated perhaps with what you have in mind. If you don't have anything in mind, you cannot be fascinated. --Iannis Xenakis (auch so einer... |

Bye Bye Shawmut, er, FleetCenter The soon to be... (Oct 27 2003 22:03 GMT) - Bye Bye Shawmut, er, FleetCenterThe soon to be renamed FleetCenterA $47 billion merger announced Monday will join Fleet with Bank of America, and as part of the deal, Fleet will surrender its name, and along with that, obviously, the naming rights for the FleetCenter. Originally slated to me christened the Shawmut Center before a Fleet-Shawmut merger in the early '90s while the building was still under construction, the FleetCenter has been home to the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, the Beanpot, Wrestlemania, the NHL All-Star Game, NCAA Tournament basketball and hockey games, several memorable concerts from U2, Springsteen and other major acts. The most logical name would be the Bank of America center, but that's pretty lame. In fact, it makes the name "FleetCenter" sound pretty cool by comparison. Here's an idea that would put the Bank of America in the good graces of the Boston public pretty quickly. |

Ten Commandments (Oct 27 2003 22:03 GMT) - I have no problem with courts displaying the Ten Commandments. But... I also have no problem with courts NOT displaying the Ten Commandments. I believe in the separation of church and state. I believe in this because it protects my freedom to believe and practice my religion. |

New Face for Blosxom (Oct 27 2003 22:03 GMT) - Today I gave Blosxom a customized look to bring it into uniformity with most of my other sites namely my personal site. It took me a few attempts to get the code right then to get the look & functionality right. I still don't particularly like the way the left navigation bar looks but that will be a project for another day. I do like this look better than the old look. |

The Lord's Church (Oct 27 2003 22:03 GMT) - Since today is Sunday, the Lord's day, it seems appropriate to post a blog in the religion category. Thera are many beliefs in Christendom (all who profess faith in Christ) and many denominations comprising it. Are all these denominational groups just part of a greate whole? Or are they 'false religions' not sanctioned by the Father or His Son? When I read Jesus' prayer in John 17: |

SCO v. IBM Part Deux (Oct 27 2003 22:03 GMT) - When I wrote my original blog on this case, SCO had just sued IBM, but its legal strategy was puzzling: it started out with its weakest claims and sued its strongest adversary. Since that time, it has hired David Boies (defender of Napster and Al Gore) as its lawyer, yet its legal strategy continues to misfire: SCO recently decided not to send out "invoices" to alleged violators of its rights (since it had yet to prove infringement, such invoices are rather premature) and its lawyers just had to apologize to the Utah court for not reading all of IBM's filings: "The drafters of the first Motion for Enlargement worked largely from faxed documents that were incomplete and did not contain the Addendum to IBM's Motion to Compel . |

ESPN's Flash Overkill? (Oct 27 2003 22:01 GMT) - ESPN has taken a beating from the web design/usability community over their use of Flash for text headlines. However, Mike Davidson answers the critics: the downsides aren't that bad (I don't agree entirely) and the typography is much better (I concur).
