Two Companies at Odds Over the Internet's Future (Oct 28 2003 06:15 GMT) - "Behind the marketing shorthand is a kind of war of ideas over what can be thought of as "the Internet, Act II," a technological evolution that has been gathering speed. The next-generation development of the Internet has been helped by... |

Popping The Friendster Bubble (Oct 28 2003 06:15 GMT) - Well, it seems that the mainstream press isn't swallowing all the Friendster hype either. While we have been expressing our concerns about the space, much of the mainstream press has bought the bubble-like story of how Friendster is the next big thing. Business Week, though, has taken a step back from the hype to see if there's any there there in all this hype about Friendster. The reporter comes to the conclusion that it's a "classic case of Valley disconnect", where many of the folks going gaga over Friendster haven't actually thought it through beyond the fact that plenty of people have signed up to use the service. The article suggests (unlike Friendster's claim) that friends aren't necessarily the best people for finding dates. |

Remoting is NOT dead (Oct 28 2003 06:13 GMT) - Remoting is not dead with Indigo. However if you want to prepare for Indigo (from the FAQ) you should "Avoid or abstract using low-level extensibility such as .NET Remoting sinks and channels." More information on Remoting w/ Indigo can also be found here. If you haven't guessed it already, im one of the testers covering remote objects in the next milestone. |

Lexar, the next big player in MP3s (Oct 28 2003 06:13 GMT) - Lexar announced that they will be introducing a flash-based JumpDrive Music device in November. One of the greatest benefits of their product will be that there are no moving parts in it. I read earlier today on BlogCritics, bookofjoe has had problems with all 3 of his iPods. I posted earlier that I fancy having an iPod but after reading about the problems that bookofjoe is having, I'm not too sure. Granted, I don't plan to be jogging with my iPod but if I were to set it down a little too hard or drop it, what then? |
