Re: Can't Start Radio (Oct 28 2003 06:09 GMT) - Another thought... I browsed around in Radio.root and looked at the 'inetd' table, in the '10', '15' and '21' tables, each of which had several entries, all of which seem to show the same information, especially the 'whatwentwrong' message, which says: "Can't read stream because TCP/IP error code 10022 - Invalid argument." and 'whatWereWeDoing' message, which says: |

Robots Attack White House, Film at 11 (Oct 28 2003 06:08 GMT) - Some have suggested that something fishy is going on with the White House webserver, and the "robots.txt" file it uses to discourage automated web crawlers from visiting portions of the site. The Democratic National Committee sees devious historical revisionism, naturally. Further wild speculation is available at Dan Gillmor's eJournal, especially in the comments. But I'm pretty sure that this just a clumsy mistake, or misguided reaction to some haywire crawler, rather than any intentional manipulation. |

Japanese Earth-Monitoring Satellite ADEOS-2 Goes Silent (Oct 28 2003 06:06 GMT) - "Japan has lost contact with the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-2 (Adeos-2), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced Oct. 25. The Earth observing satellite, which was launched in December, failed to make a scheduled data transmission Oct. 25 and engineers subsequently discovered that the craft had turned off all of its observation equipment to minimize power use, JAXA reported. It was later discovered that the spacecraft’s solar panels were producing only 1 kilowatt of power, rather than the normal 6 kilowatts. |

State fires welfare employees after four starving adopted boys found (Oct 28 2003 06:06 GMT) - "The body of a 7-year-old boy found in a box in a Newark basement nearly a year ago prompted a shake-up at New Jersey's child welfare agency. The agency reviewed all open cases, hired 366 more employees and received $30 million in emergency aid. Despite those changes, four adopted boys — one of them 19 — were found earlier this month malnourished and weighing less than 50 pounds each." (10/27/03) |
