Can You Hear Me Now NYC? (Oct 28 2003 08:05 GMT) - Sick of dealing with deadspots throughout New York City, mayor Michael Bloomberg has set up a system to let users call in and report dead spots (obviously, they have to wait until they have service again to call). The city will then make that information public on November 24th, coinciding, of course, with the day that (most) carriers dread: number portability day. For years, the carriers have been notoriously secretive about their maps, which often show exactly where the deadspots occur. Some have tried to force the carriers to open up, partly for the sake of customers who don't want to be locked into a 2 year contract only to come home and find they have no signal at home. |

DuPont Awarded National Medal of Technology for Work on Alternatives to Ozone-Depleting Compounds (Oct 28 2003 08:00 GMT) - DuPont has been awarded the National Medal of Technology for developing alternative technology that replaces ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons. This year's award is the fourth National Medal of Technology affiliated with DuPont in 13 years. In the 1970's DuPont began a global research effort focused on understanding CFC environmental fate, which ultimately led to the development of alternative technology to CFC use. DuPont has also been heavily involved in other efforts to reduce the impact of industry on the atmosphere. In early 2003, DuPont became a founding member of the Chicago Climate Exchange, a voluntary cap-and-trade program for reducing and trading greenhouse gas emissions. |
