There is a great article ... (Oct 28 2003 15:58 GMT) - There is a great article in the New Yorker this week about how Ken Lay will likely never be convicted for Enron (sorry, it isn't online). Inside the article is an amazing statement from the judge who presided over the trial of Fastow, Enron's CFO. It is an amazing indictment of American civilization that a |

Finding Archived Articles (Oct 28 2003 15:57 GMT) - I'm still seeing a lot of "404" (file not found) errors in my site logs. Some of the search engines haven't gotten all of the old links replaced with the new site's format. All of the archives from the "old" Cato the Youngest site were migrated to the "new" site, but the archive structure of the new site is different. For readers who have a link to the old archives and bloggers who have links to old posts that they want to update, I've posted this guide to translating old links to the new site's format. |

The War on Drugs (Oct 28 2003 15:56 GMT) - So what if we're in the middle of fighting the War on Terror? We sure can't let national security and American safety keep us from wasting effort prosecuting innocents in the War on Drugs, can we? Deroy Murdock writes about injustice: Comedian Tommy Chong began a nine-month federal prison sentence on October 7 for operating a glass-blowing shop that sold pipes to marijuana smokers. Prosecutors were not impressed that his Nice Dreams Enterprises marketed a morally neutral product. |

Margaret Craske: Snakes (Oct 28 2003 15:55 GMT) - These creatures, in one movement that literally flowed through the whole body, threw themselves into the air from one branch and with a strange wavy movement that passed from head to tail would arrive safely and softly on a neighboring tree. One could with amazement stand at a safe distance and for a long time watch this strange graceful performance. Sometimes several snakes at a time gave a performance and the effect was almost hypnotic. |

David Fenster: Jubilee Hills (Oct 28 2003 15:55 GMT) - The house had a swimming pool, built so that the Muslim women of the family (in purdah) could swim without being observed from the road or garden. The medium-sized pool had a gray-blue tiled bottom with white stars, and a fountain at its head. A large pond in the back garden, in which the children could play, was decorated with a miniature lighthouse, rocks, and a few sailing boats. |
