XM PCR (Oct 28 2003 23:50 GMT) - While wandering through the mall yesterday, I noticed that the XM Satellite Radio vendor in the mall had a device they called "XM PCR". It's an XM receiver for your PC (running Windows). Cool user interface: It worked fine last night, and is working fine again today. However, during the hours in which sunlight was shining into the room, it resolutely refused to work. |

New Laszlo Game Demo: Shooter (Oct 28 2003 23:48 GMT) - I'm on a Laszlo kick lately. The more stuff I see being built with this the more convinced I am that this platform is going to really take off. Speaking of taking off, I spent a few hours and created the beginnings of a space shooter reminiscent of R-Type or Galaga. You can also view the sourcecode if you like. Be sure to check out the way cool zoetrope layout used to create the scrolling background. |

data ifyer (Oct 28 2003 23:48 GMT) - One of the really cool features of Netscape/Mozilla/Gecko-based browsers is the ability to view images that are "embedded" or actually encoded in the page you are viewing. Using base64 encoding, you can point to a string of characters in the page and have the browser render that as an image. This little form allows you to generate urls that you can in turn embed into anything.. form posts, emails, etc. as long as you know the user on the other side has a gecko-based browser. |

Elfwood - the mother of all fan art sites (Oct 28 2003 23:48 GMT) - I'm sure you've heard of fan fiction - where someone brings together say Star Trek and BattleStar Galactica or something like that. Fan art, however has not reached that same level of awareness. As bandwidth stretches off to the horizon, downloading tons of images is no longer that big of a deal. Thusly, I bring to you a site that could eat up a good part of your day as you poke around literally thousands of artists who have posted their carefully drawn or rendered artwork. Elfwood is one of the oldest and largest fan-art communities around. |

iOrganize - get your snippets in order (Oct 28 2003 23:48 GMT) - I use stickies as my personal database if clippings, little pieces of data I need to remember, passwords, etc. Until now I've not found anything that I could consider a stickie replacment. This application allows you to paste just about anything into a little clipping and then make it searchable. It's not the kitchen sink of applications, but it does make storing and retrieving basically random information really easy. |
