On the Death of the XML Database (Oct 29 2003 13:57 GMT) - A recent article by Phil Howard of Bloor Research on IT-Director.com talks about the Demise of the XML Database. Excerpts below While you can still buy an XML database purely because it provides faster storage capability and greater functionality than a conventional database, all the erstwhile XML database vendors are increasingly turning to other sources of use for their products. These other markets basically consist of two different sectors: the use of XML databases as a part of an integration strategy, where the database is used to provide on-the-fly translation for XML documents, and for content management... |

Macworld review: 15-inch PowerBook G4s (Oct 29 2003 13:56 GMT) - Eight months after Apple announced its smallest and largest PowerBook G4s -- the 12-inch and 17-inch PowerBook G4s, in aluminum, not Titanium -- Apple released the laptop many professional Mac users had been waiting for -- the aluminum 15-inch PowerBook G4. The Antelope arrives # (Oct 29 2003 13:56 GMT) - Category: Laptops/PCs Gosh, we remember when the Antelope Modular Computing Core was just vaporware, way back in the halcyon days of late 2002. But despite all the haters who said it'd never come out, the Antelope MCC has arrived. About the size of a deck of cards, the MCC is a tiny 1GHz computer with 256MB of RAM and a 10 or 15GB hard drive that runs a full version of Windows XP. The idea is that the core -- which by the way, costs $4,000 -- pops into a docking station with a screen and keyboard if you want to use it like a desktop, or into a smaller PDA-type shell if you need something more portable. |
