The Choice Between Socrates and Uday (Oct 30 2003 01:59 GMT) - I suppose for some it's a matter of opinion which method is better, Socrates' or Uday's. But we'll get to that in due time. John Allison writes:When I taught in the Army I taught maintenance of tank turrets, use of... |

But it's also full of hope and promise in a way that nothing in a crowded place can ever be. The people who first settled the high desert had some good ideas I've copied. |

PDC 2003: ClickOnce in Whidbey (Oct 30 2003 01:55 GMT) - I am impressed with "ClickOnce" deployment in Whidbey. It contains much more than I would have initially thought. ClickOnce basically works like this: You develop a WinForms application in Whidbey and "deploy" it to a web server for installation using "ClickOnce". A user that downloads the app from the web server now gets the option to install / cache the app on his system. |

Tuesday morning (Oct 30 2003 01:53 GMT) - I agreed to participate in an MRI (brain scanning) study! They immobilized my head with pillows and a strap, so that my brain wouldn't move around. My co-worker who was running the study had previously run studies where you had to refer to electrodes as 'sensors' so as not to freak people out, but this was his second day of running this study so he hadn't yet developed a patter to make harmless yet associated-with-freaky-things procedures like strapping one's head down seem innocuous. So he was like "well, now we sort of strap your head down." They then put VR goggles on my eyes (so cool! |

A Trans-Israel Canal? IsraelNationalNews reports ... (Oct 30 2003 01:52 GMT) - A Trans-Israel Canal? IsraelNationalNews reports that the Israeli Transportation, Infrastructures and Interior Ministries have embarked on the initial stages of project to move the large Pi Gelilot fuel facility that is currently located in the heart of Tel Aviv to a not-yet-built offshore artificial island in the Mediterranean Sea. Interestingly the article suggests that the source of the landfill needed to construct such an island could be from the construction of a canal from the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Ashkelon, to the Red Sea port of Eilat. This 300 kilometre long canal would serve as an alternate to the Suez Canal for traffic between the Mediterranean and Red Seas and would also be wider than the Suez Canal, which cannot accept supertankers. Given that the Suez is much shorter and would be easier to expand than to build a new canal this project is unlikely to occur. |
