Our Harvard weblog passed one ... (Oct 30 2003 02:59 GMT) - Our Harvard weblog passed one million page reads today. Also just noticed in the referrers that PDCBloggers.Net gave us a nice link and a bunch of flow, pointing to the weblog-defined piece I wrote for Jupiter. After all the nasty crap I've read about myself from Linux bigots in the last few days because I dared to criticize their favorite OS, it's nice to get some respect from developers (I also criticized Windows, btw). You know the old saw about catching flies with honey. |

IDF warns against repeating Abbas mistakes (Oct 30 2003 02:56 GMT) - IDF warns against repeating Abbas mistakes The high command of the Israel Defense Forces believes that Israel contributed to the collapse of former Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas' government by making only stingy demonstrations of support, and is warning Israel not to repeat the mistake with Palestinian premier Ahmed Qureia, who is now trying to form a permanent cabinet. The New York Times reports Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was described as "furious" about these comments, attributed to Lt. Gen. Moshe Yaalon, the military's chief of staff, Israeli television stations reported later in the day. Ha'aretz says that one source in Sharon's office goes so far to say that Yaalon needs to either apologize or resign. |

Khodorkovsky for President in 2004? (Oct 30 2003 02:56 GMT) - Khodorkovsky for President in 2004? As rumors continued to swirl around whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had or had not accepted the resignation of his chief of staff Alexander Voloshin on Wednesday, a new political figure suddenly emerged from the wings in a reminder that strange intrigues never end in Russian politics. That figure is jailed Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky. And, politicians and analysts suggested, he could be used as a third opposition force in the presidential elections to force Putin into a second round and into compromise with big business. Meanwhile, Russian prosecutors moved in on a prominent ally of the billionaire Mikhail Khodorkovsky yesterday as a key presidential aide appeared likely to become the next victim of a struggle for power in the Kremlin. |
