Dance you down.... (Oct 30 2003 17:11 GMT) - I have a headache this morning. A slight headache. The kind that reminds you that you should not have stayed up so late last night. But I had a good reason, I attended a highly entertaining though long winded poetry... |

Spammers as Identity Thieves (Oct 30 2003 17:10 GMT) - Regular readers of this blogspace know that I'm not a huge screamer when it comes to spam. I think there are lots of pretty easy ways to deal with most of what comes into my In box that I don't want to deal with and I'm not willing to adopt stringent laws that potentially run afoul of the First Amendment just to make my email life more convenient. But there appears to me to have been a sudden increase in the number of spammers who in fact are committing a crime. I'm talking about spammers who spoof the From: address so that email appears to be coming from one of my accounts. |

Blog Back (Oct 30 2003 17:07 GMT) - Okay, I got this site looking like it used to. Hooray! I still need to work on the smaller sub pages, but for the most part, things are getting back to normal. I reposted some of the more important links from last week onto here just for reference. Well, I haven't seen any actual Al news today, so I guess it's time for *drumroll please* the "Weird Al Site of the Moment"! |

Hit 'n' Run, 10-30-2003 (Oct 30 2003 17:07 GMT) - *** I have no idea if this is the last week for the free Microsoft eBooks or not, it says it goes through November. Tech-drool (Oct 30 2003 17:07 GMT) - Once more, my techno-lust is supremely aroused, and there's no way to quench it. The Treo 600 CDMA version is only carried by Sprint. I'm a pretty faithful Verizon Wireless guy -- I simply have never had a problem connecting to a network, and they have the best No Long-Distance, No Roaming plan in the bizness. But this could make me forget all of that. |

Through a Glass... (Oct 30 2003 17:07 GMT) - One benefit of age seems to be improved vision. Recently I went to get a vision checkup since I wanted to replace my eyeglasses (required for driving by the State of Oregon). The old ones were scratched and worn. My eye doctor commented that my vision had changed, and was good enough to pass the vehicle vision requirements. "This often happens in the mid-forties. |

Avalon isn't about Web/GUI convergence (Oct 30 2003 17:06 GMT) - Jon Udell, as a sort of echo to my questions on Avalon/XAML give his analysis on the subject: Edwin Khodabakchian echoes what seems to be a common -- but I think incorrect -- perception that XAML, the XUL-like layout language revealed this week to be a building block of Longhorn's Avalon presentation subsystem, heralds some kind of Web/GUI convergence: We had prototypes and concepts at Netscape that were very close to what Microsoft is starting to promote with Avalon. One the positive side, it is great to see HTML, XML, CSS and SVG become the foundation of UI development within windows. [Organic BPEL] My understanding, based on a demo I saw last week, is that although XAML is indeed an XML dialect, it has nothing to do with HTML, CSS, or SVG. |
