Lunch with Jim McGee (Oct 30 2003 22:59 GMT) - Just returned to the office from a thoroughly engagaing lunch with Jim McGee. Jim is every bit as smart and engaging as his weblog would have you think he is. As has become the norm in first-time meetings with fellow bloggers, all of the ordinary “getting to know you” stuff is gone. |

A lovely trick -- from ... (Oct 30 2003 22:57 GMT) - A lovely trick -- from Tim O'ReillyFrom a Wired report. Quote:O'Reilly said the old idea of stand-alone software -- the unconnected word processor or spreadsheet -- is becoming passé. Even the idea of making a distinction between software platforms -- Mac, Windows and Linux -- is starting to no longer make sense. "The platform is no longer the box sitting at your desk," O'Reilly said. |

Helpline Comment (24259) (Oct 30 2003 22:57 GMT) - Walter I have a compaq with a 4x sony CDROM here and I use it to test CDs I burn. I have FPROT on CD and periodically update the virus definitions and just burn a new copy of the whole thing on the same CD. I have six copies so far and the old obsoletes I deal with every day usually can read it. |

Propaganda: The Art Of War (Oct 30 2003 22:57 GMT) - "In 1964, Lyndon Johnson was facing great difficulty getting Americans to appreciate the urgency of defeating Communist uprisings in the small, impoverished nation of Vietnam. So he had the military invent the Gulf of Tonkin “incident” whereby the North Vietnam purportedly instigated an attack on idle US warships. The Tonkin incident was mere fabricated pre-text, yet it was all LBJ needed to escalate a horrifically destructive war of “liberation.” |

Who is the man whose number is 666? (Oct 30 2003 22:57 GMT) - This website is unlike most others in that it is not a site where one is advised to skip around from page to page. It is a single Bible study, which if followed methodically and prayerfully, will surprise, and no doubt shock many. To others, it will be a wake up call to the times in which we are now living. This study adheres strictly to the Biblical rules of interpretation set out within the Bible itself, and in doing so, positively identifies the man with 666 as "the number of his name" (Revelation 13: 17). |

Hibernate 2.1 Beta 5 Released! (Oct 30 2003 22:56 GMT) - Normally I wouldn't announce a Hibernate beta release (since it is a beta and I'm not currently using it), but there's a bunch of bug fixes (see release notes) that folks might be able to use. You can also download this bad-boy if you so desire. On a side note ~ I find it amusing how my real-world projects influence my open source contributions. I don't follow Hibernate much because I don't use it day to day. On my last few projects, I've used it a lot. |
