Groove is Strategic Tech: Ray ... (Oct 31 2003 02:55 GMT) - Groove is Strategic Tech: Ray Ozzie of Lotus Notes fame has engineered a strategic winner in the development of the P2P groupware Groove product. I have tried several pilots of this software and it works well and intuitively. This is the real deal, and is head and shoulders ahead of its competitors. Apparently Micrsoft agrees to the tune of $40 million dollar investment in Groove, must have been a heck of a day for Ray Ozzie when this was announced! |

Fog versus Smoke (Oct 31 2003 02:52 GMT) - Fog versus Smoke Here in downtown San Diego, business appears to be back in business as the courthouses are back on. Leah drove me to the bus and I bussed it in and the activity level is much higher than it was Monday and Tuesday. Looks like a light, and mercifully grey fog has beaten back the smoke! The air no longer smells of campfire, and fewer people are wearing dust masks and surgical masks. (Yesterday I saw a San Diego Policeman driving with a dust mask on). |

Arriving even earlier than we had originally predicted, the first DVD recorder that will support the playback and recording of Windows Media 9 video files is here. Using Windows Media 9 means that over six hours of DVD quality video can be squeezed onto one disc, and the DiVA 489, which is being built by Malata/Wanlida (yeah, we'd never heard of them either) but will be sold under the Polaroid brand name in the US, can also play Windows Media content that's streamed or downloaded over the Internet. Tables vs CSS (Oct 31 2003 02:51 GMT) - Tables vs CSS The CSS backlash is on! Last time I checked, most web sites use a database. And databases are just a bunch of tables in the first place, hence tabular data. Just because this guy is a wacko and he gets a couple of details like this wrong doesn't mean his basic point is incorrect. There is no doubt that there are plenty of CSS zealots out there who have gone way overboard in their effort to eliminate all tables from HTML and replace them with CSS. |
