Porca Trojan! |

Will security flaws force Mac users to upgrade? (Oct 31 2003 09:58 GMT) - "Apple released an advisory that indicate that the Mac OS X 10.3 upgrade--which adds an improved Finder menu, better synchronization of files and a tool to help users find a specific window on a crowded desktop--also includes more than a dozen 'security enhancements'. However, Apple apparently doesn't intend to fix the flaws in previous versions of the software: Apple's Security Updates Web page doesn't list fixes for the flaws in Mac OS X 10.2 and earlier," says CNet. |

ISRAEL ON THE VERGE OF A CATASTROPHE (Oct 31 2003 09:58 GMT) - The Guardian: "Israel's army chief has exposed deep divisions between the military and Ariel Sharon by branding the government's hardline treatment of Palestinian civilians counter-productive and saying that the policy intensifies hatred and strengthens the 'terror organisations'. Lieutenant-General Moshe Ya'alon also told Israeli journalists in an off-the-record briefing that the army was opposed to the route of the 'security fence' through the West Bank. The criticism is made all the more searing because Gen Ya'alon is not known for being soft on the Palestinians. The general warned that the continued curfews, reoccupation of towns and severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinians, combined with the economic crisis they have caused, were increasing the threat to Israel's security. |

TBL versus Eolas (Oct 31 2003 09:55 GMT) - As Director of the W3C (not to mention inventor of HTML and the Web), Tim Berners-Lee has written to the US Patent and Trademark Office in protest against the Eolas ‘906 Patent. In case you are unaware, the patent lays claim that Eolas invented the concept of browser plug-ins. Eolas tested the patent against Microsoft and won in the courts, the upshot being that future versions of Internet Explorer will be crippled for pages containing embedded media. This will affect RealAudio and RealVideo streaming, QuickTime video, Flash and Shockwave players, Adobe’ |
