What is HFC and why did it send me $4000? (Oct 31 2003 22:32 GMT) - Oh wait, the check is a loan. Isn't HFC, like, household finance or something? Now they just send you something that looks like a check and starts generating interest the moment you don't put it through the shredded? Why don't they just send me crack and get on with it? |

Apple will fix security flaws in Jaguar (Oct 31 2003 22:32 GMT) - I saw this one coming, and so did most of the Mac community. Those columnists over at C|Net and other tech. sites that just love to pounce on a story and criticize Apple can go shove it. @ Shake found some security flaws with Jaguar, and since Apple did not immediately put out some PR about fixing it, they get nailed with “they are not updating Jaguar because they want you to spend $130 for Panther” |

Utopia, The Perennial Heresy (Oct 31 2003 22:32 GMT) - Along the lines of my post below, patriotism is what most separates authentic conservatives from so-called neoconseratives. These lines are somewhat blurry, no doubt, but for those who think of America as an abstraction, the apotheosis of "democratic capitalism" with some messianic mission to bring its way of life to the ends of the earth, the source of their patriotism does not reside on earth but in the heavens. And man-made heavens at that. Chesterton--his quotable passages are irrestable- ... |

SoulCards 2 (Oct 31 2003 22:32 GMT) - I feel the need to write something tonight, but I’m not sure what. There are two cards sitting on my desk, and they are sort of inspiring me. One of them is The Hermit from the Robin Wood Tarot, and the other is a card from SoulCards 2. Together, they make me think of the search for knowledge and the compassion and understanding one needs to do this correctly. |

This is what it's all about.... (Oct 31 2003 22:32 GMT) - Bella wouldn't sit still long enough for me to snap a photo of her Care Bear costume, but Addie happily posed as Cinderella: This reminded me that I do have a purpose in life and I do bring joy to others, namely my children. See that look on her face? It's beautiful. She's so happy. |

The British perfect storm (Oct 31 2003 22:30 GMT) - You've probably seen the film "The Perfect Storm" which involved events off the east coast of the USA, but did you know that Britain once suffered a combination of hurricane winds, a spring tide and a sea surge that flooded vast sections of the east coast killing 530 people? The same conditions devastated the Netherlands where 1,836 perished. But you've never heard of... |
