Why George Bush Sr. didn't occupy Iraq (Nov 02 2003 02:57 GMT) - George Herbert Walker Bushfrom his memoir, "A World Transformed" (1998)Trying to eliminate Saddam...would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible.... We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq.... there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles. |

Michael J. Martin '64 (Nov 02 2003 02:52 GMT) - Updated 1-Nov-2003. It is hard to believe that our class held it's graduation nearly 40 years ago. My family moved to Connecticut after graduation so I have not been back to the Awalt campus since I graduated, and imagine it has changed a lot. In the 60's there were actually some orange groves bordering the back end of the school. I'm sure there are no groves left. |
