Mishka's (Nov 11 2003 05:48 GMT) - Saw The Matrix: Revolutions, with the boys and am back at Mishka's downtown, where I'll be hanging out for the rest of the evening (until this place closes, at 11). Dave and Dan have driven back to the dorms, where an RA check will occur, in about 2 minutes. Dan is staying with his bro, and I'm eschewing the floor-sleeping thing, and am going for a more civilized overnighter, at the University Inn Bed and Breakfast. :: |

Support the Troops (Nov 11 2003 05:48 GMT) - Many, though certainly not all of us here, have argued there is an intimate conenction between war mongering and plutocracy. The old "war is racket" idea viz. that war is about a certain power class consolidating wealth and power just seems to fit the facts in so many conflicts. Hence it comes as no surprise that war mongerers are also... |

Geek Notes 2003-11-10 (Nov 11 2003 05:46 GMT) - Sorry, not much today. As I mentioned last night, I rebuilt my laptop yesterday. This morning the new build was not behaving nicely (it was a new corp ghost image) so I spent the morning rebuilding it by hand. Along the way I lost my current OPML for my aggregator (oops), so I had to revert back to the last copy I uploaded to the web server (at least a month out of date). Here is the only thing that caught my eye today: |

Missiles and Airlines (Nov 11 2003 05:46 GMT) - Slate's Daniel Benjamin warns us about a growing airline danger: Given the growing intensity of the combat in Iraq, the downing of two helicopters and the resulting deaths of 22 soldiers in the last week comes as little surprise. The... |

This Coconut Soap (Nov 11 2003 05:46 GMT) - Was this for you, this block of soap, a natural product made in Fiji? Was it not for you? Certainly it was not for me. I have no need for hand-crafted, natural-oil coconut soap, although it has come in handy holding the pages of these piled-up books open. Yes, I think it was for you. |

Today's adventure was the removal ... (Nov 11 2003 05:45 GMT) - Today's adventure was the removal of a fibroma (a big 'ol lump of tissue) from the inside of my left cheek. I have to say that having the inside of my mouth carved out and then stitched up is not high on my list of fun things to do. However, even though I was not having a good time at all, I stayed very still, didn't moan or groan, and was very cooperative. But, I was a totally relieved (albeit a tad shaky) camper when the procedure was over. My surgeon commented that I was an excellent patient. |

this never happened to pablo picasso (Nov 11 2003 05:44 GMT) - and yes, bowie's latest album, reality, is just fucking incredible. heathen is a fantastic album, reintroducing the "classic" bowie sound, but reality just takes it that extra step. every song on this album is great, including the bonus disk in the limited edition release. unfortunately, i can't say the same about heathen... but that's not to say that heathen is bad. |

Have Car, Will Kayak. (Nov 11 2003 05:44 GMT) - After taking a five day vacation and going kayaking with a Reed group last month, I realized something very important: I need to take breaks more often. Besides the oodles of work constantly on my plate, there was still one other very good reason for not taking more outdoor trips. No readily available means of transportation was in my possession, so the Pacific Northwest was a wee bit limited to me. Sure, I have housemates with cars, but they and their cars are not mine to do with as... |

Girl's Night In (Nov 11 2003 05:41 GMT) - Wouldn't you know it - Kelley gets a day to herself and I didn't know about it in time to plan a marathon long-distance gab-fest, damn it. See, tonight I get one of those rare nights home semi-alone, too. Hubby, with the aid of $40 out of my wallet and a lot of begging on my behalf, agreed to go watch football with a buddy of his so I could have some time to myself. A pretty fair deal, don't you think? Now, while Kelley didn't know what to do with herself, I have been planning this ever since my Harold & Maude DVD arrived this morning. |

Fire spreads through house on Stone (Nov 11 2003 05:40 GMT) - A lack of functional fire-safety equipment may be a reason why a suspected grease fire spread throughout a house on Stone Street last night, causing damage to the house and property of 11 students-though the New Brunswick Fire Department could not identify the exact cause of the fire. |
