Retailers Get the Download Fever (Nov 11 2003 05:14 GMT) - "Apple Computer's iTunes is turning into such an unequivocal success that it seems like other businesses can't help but try to take their own bite out of the company's share of the music download market." Beau Smith column (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - Beau Smith will be writing a new column on Silver Bullet Comics called "Busted Knuckles." Technically, it begins in a substitute column today, titled: Who Was That Masked Man? It's all about how people snipe and post online because they're anonymous...and isn't it crooks and villains who hide behind masks? |

Retire the Chief (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - In the absurdities of the modern world, the continued use of a caricature to represent the Illini tribe with a foolish moron at U of I athletic events bothers few. Fighting Illini itself isn't offensive, but some idiot running around the field acting like a chicken with his head cut off is not an appropriate representative of Native American culture. Why is there such attachment to such an obnoxious symbol? An obvious solution would be to involve the descendants of the Illini tribe in a... |

Embarrassing (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - So now that we have moved fully to the phase of the war where everyone wonders who has the damn plan, let's look back at my standard for the war being worthwhile. The exception being smallpox. If we don't turn up evidence of a nuclear program and/or smallpox, this war was pointless. Nukes are the only real WMD and if he didn't have an active program (and I believe he did), containment would have worked just fine, thank you. So pretty much, the war wasn't worth it. |

Paging Pat Quinn--remember the one thing you were useful for was ranting about monopolies. Have someone take the muzzle off and remind G-Rod he is a Democrat. The Must Reads (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - Are over at the Capitol Fax. The first up story is on Obama snagging the IFT endorsement. I'd heard rumblings, but I wasn't sure. The significance is it creates a hole for Hynes as Miller points out. But most importantly Illinois is an organization state. |

I'm Back (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - So that was a bit longer than expected, but everything should be getting back to normal now. Over the next week expect more links and tidbits from other places. I'm working on an upgrade to ArchPundit that will take it to a new site. While I love Blogstudio, I've outgrown it a bit. But let me say, if you are looking for a good basic service that can host or be a simple interface with little extra work, it is a great service. |

Web faces patent disruption (Nov 11 2003 05:13 GMT) - A US court ruling that Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser infringes a patent owned by a one-man firm will disrupt the entire web, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) warns. Going in to bat for Microsoft and "all users that depend on the web every day", W3C director and web pioneer Tim Berners-Lee says the patent is invalid due to "prior art". He says the court decision will cause "substantial economic and technical damage" to web users and developers. |

Enough of showcasing technologies (Nov 11 2003 05:12 GMT) - I recently watched an episode of Bhoomi on Doordarshan National network. Bhoomi is a series on environment produced by Siddhartha Kak of Cinema Vision India and promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Siddhartha is better known for his long-running and immensely popular cultural magazine programme "Surabhi". My kudos to the producers for a very nice work done here. One of the segments in this Bhoomi episode very validly raised the issue of Safe Drinking water. |
