Sony MDR-EX71 (Nov 13 2003 00:17 GMT) - I've been using a set of Koss earbuds for about a year now. The Koss earbuds are pretty big (but not as large as other in-ear headphones) and not very comfortable when I'm listening to my iPod in bed. A couple of days ago, we were in Circuit City and I spied a set of Sony MDR-EX71 earbuds. I've read mixed reviews of them, but there seemed to be enough positive press that I thought I'd give them a try. The EX71's are small and light. |

Portals and KMLaw firms that ... (Nov 13 2003 00:15 GMT) - Portals and KMLaw firms that are considering purchasing a portal product should read the November 3, 2003 issue of eWeek magazine for its review of the leading portal products (ATG, BEA WebLogic, Computer Associates CleverPath, IBM WebSphere, Microsoft SharePoint, Plumtree, Sybase Enterprise Portal, and Vignette). This issue updates a prior review and focuses mainly on WebSphere and SharePoint (reviewing both favorably). Not reviewed in this issue but of interest in the legal market is the "vertical market" portal product, LawPort by SV Technology.Any firm that is thinking about a portal should make sure also to consider its knowledge management strategy and how the portal fits with it (or how KM fits with the portal). Portals are excellent enabling technologies and can serve as a platform for KM, but standing alone, do not constitute KM products. |

Protests (Nov 13 2003 00:14 GMT) - We were in Hannover today protesting against the state's (i.e. Lower Saxony's) plan to cut university funding a lot starting next year. That will be quite painful for all of our university (as well as the others), leading to some departments being closed completely and mostly costing the jobs of young researchers who are important for helping run the teaching and looking after the students and who are supposed to be the ones to run universities in the future. About 20000 people came there, 3000 of which from Gö |
