Screw You, Outlook 2003 (Nov 23 2003 23:02 GMT) - I can't stand it anymore; it's time to roll back to Outlook 2000 and pray to GOD IN THE HEAVENS ABOVE that someone keeps future versions of the PIM from going straight into the crapper for anybody not connecting to an Exchange server. If you rely on POP3 or IMAP, you'll be just as disappointed with the lame UI bugs and inconsistencies that plague Microsoft's latest client. Since I’m going to keep the rest of Office 2003 alive, it’s going to be quite a trick to downgrade midstream. I’ll have to figure out a way to export my PST so that I can make the leap backwards without causing too much of a fuss. |

Birmingham - The Space Slug (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - The Thinker says of Birmingham "The new Selfridges is housed in what looks like a space-age slug. The shiny discs which cover the cornerless building remind me of the ill-fated body zone at the Millennium Dome." Personally I think... |

Can You Say Co-op? (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - John Dvorak on blogging: So now we have the emergence of the professional blogger working for large media conglomerates and spewing the same measured news and opinions we've always had—except for fake edginess, which suggests some sort of independent, counterculture, free-thinking observers. But who signs the checks? The faux blog will replace the old personality columns that were once the rage in newspaperdom. Can you spell retro? |

Spurs 2 - 1 Aston Villa (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - Spurs fought back from a goal down to claim a deserved victory over Villa at White Hart Lane. Spurs opted for an unchanged lineup after the North London derby, with Tony Gardner having recovered from the back spasms that kept him out of the England vs Denmark game Once again we started brightly. With just 3 minutes gone Keane produced a clever flick to release Postiga. The Portuguese youngster opted to go for a right foot shot when using his left would have given a better angle and his effort went wide. Dalmat was at the heart of most of our best moves in the first 45 minutes and he fired a shot over after about 10 minutes. |

The truth is way out there (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - I've just watched the BBC TWO documentary, narrated by Gavin Esler, that has contributed to much of the debate about the Kennedy assassination here at The Copydesk (and on other websites) over the past week.I have to say, some of the information presented was reasonably sound - but largely, the whole thing struck me as a horrible catalogue of revisionist propaganda - and ended up no better than Oliver Stone's largely fictional movie JFK.In order to accept the findings of the documentary - that Oswald acted alone - you have to believe all of the following:1. That a computer generated simulation of the events on Dealey Plaza at 1230EST on 22 November, 1963 can ever hope to represent the events that actually took place in the real world - which is almost impossible to do. |

The weather prevented any meaningful going out, but sitting around playing games and talking with friends was good. Kevan and I splashed out on a sealed-deck pack each of the new-ish Mirrodin edition of Magic: The Gathering. It's pretty good. |

Hoorah! I think my mealtimes will shortly become even more exciting. Only four to begin with, as I need to experiment before I can begin ramping up demand. Easy does it, and all that. |

Blogging and Writing (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - Mark Bernstein, Phil Wolff, Nathan Edelman and Pat are a part of a panel on the importance of Web logs with writing, and it's spurring some pretty good threads dealing with the issues of implementation, privacy, plagiarism, etc. One obvious issue that I'm noticing is the difference between personal blogging and educational blogging, especially on the K-12 level. A lot of us use Web logs with our students, but how many of us really have students that are "blogging" in the essential sense? In fact, the question may even be can our students really "blog" at all given the limitations imposed by school districts and the fears of teachers and administrators? I'm not discounting the worth of using Web logs to teach writing (and other things), but I guess the distinction to remember is that we're really not teaching blogging. |

Blogs Are Dead...Ouch (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - John Dvorak of PC Magazine skewers Web logs, and I mean skewers. Writing is tiresome. Why anyone would do it voluntarily on a blog mystifies a lot of professional writers. This is compounded by a lack of feedback, positive or otherwise. Perseus thinks that most blogs have an audience of about 12 readers. |

Live From EdBlogger...Sort Of (Nov 23 2003 23:00 GMT) - People are starting to arrive to the Sunday conversations, and I'm really psyched.
