Unveiling Southern Exposure (Nov 25 2003 23:37 GMT) - For the last few weeks a number of bloggers from various parts of the world have been developing the pilot for a blog on Latin American issues, mostly economic, which I think is now ready for primetime. So here is the link for Southern Exposure, a collaboration by Marcelo Rinesi (Argentina), Stephen George from bandiera |

One more scream and.... (Nov 25 2003 23:36 GMT) - ....I'm going ballistic. This has been the Tuesday from Hell. I woke up with a damn sinus-type of headache, which morphed into a tension headache after listening to Addie-Love screech for three hours because -- get this -- she wanted a new toy. She saw a commercial featuring Santa ho-ho-hoing around cutie-pie actor kids while brandishing presents wrapped in bright colors. "Mom, I want toys NOW! |

samarkand-panzers : Samarkand, jour J-1 ?

TERRORISM IS A REACTION, NOT AN ACTION (Nov 25 2003 23:35 GMT) - There has been a lot of pleading lately, from people across the political spectrum, for Democrats and liberals to 'develop a real policy to deal with terrorism'. In the absence of this, the argument goes, every terrorist act plays into the hands of the Republicans and the neocons, giving them 'I told you so' justification for their 'anti-terrorist' actions (at least in the minds of the 50% of Americans who still buy the Bush con that unilaterally attacking Iraq had something to do with fighting terrorism). And in such an atmosphere, irresponsible idiots like Tommy Franks are advising terrorists that if they want to turn the US into a paranoid police state, the answer is simple: just pay one wacko in the US to detonate one dirty bomb anywhere in the country. If the Bush regime is struggling next year to get re-elected, the best shot in the arm they could get would be more terrorism. |

The hardest gay heavy metal band ever (Nov 25 2003 23:34 GMT) - PINK STËËL makes heavy metal gay, and gay heavy metal funny as hell--blurring the lines between music, comedy, Motley Crüe and Mary Poppins to create a fabulous, fist-pumping arena rock concert experience that will leave you singing tunes like "We Fight For Cock" "I'm Comin' Out (All Over You)" and "Sausage Party" for days--whether you want to or not |

Gullibility (Nov 25 2003 23:33 GMT) - According to The Register reporting on e-commerce complaints, the Florida Department of Banking and Finance reports that Nigerian 419 scams are the fifth largest industry in Nigeria, accounting for more than $5 billion in illegal income for scammers. $5 billion! Someone just mentioned to me ... (Nov 25 2003 23:32 GMT) - Someone just mentioned to me that over the past year alone, the AMiA has managed to raise $400,000 for church planting. They've planted 15 mission parishes in the past year (i.e., churches where there were none before, not parish transfers). If this is accurate, that's remarkable growth for a hierarchical denomination, let alone an Anglican body. |

Digital Music Messing Up The Nature Of Copyright Law (Nov 25 2003 23:32 GMT) - The content in this article shouldn't surprise most people who read Techdirt, but it's still good to see a somewhat mainstream publication (PC World) look at the issues of copyright in a digital world and realize that it's not black and white, but that there are a hundred shades of gray to deal with. The current laws are clearly obsolete and new laws have yet to be written. So, in the meantime, everyone is trying to fit old laws onto new technologies, and it's become quite a mess. The article suggests that if you're accused of copyright infringement for downloading music you have a good chance to win if you fight it. I'm not sure I believe that. |
