Bells on Bobtail ring (Nov 30 2003 21:14 GMT) - First of all, I like Christmas music every bit as much as the next guy - no not that guy, the one next to him - yeah him. And as much as I hate being a spoil sport (and I do), I just gotta tell you all that "Jingle Bells" is an awful song. Just awful! And no, it doesn't matter who does it. It only took me forty-three years to figure it out, too. |

Huffing and puffing over Baghdad ... (Nov 30 2003 21:12 GMT) - Huffing and puffing over Baghdad visit Some journalists (but by no means all) are getting all riled up that the White House flat out lied to them to conceal President Bush' surprise Thanksgiving visit to Baghdad. This is one example where journalists are just too full of themselves. They will get no support whatsoever from the public for whining about being mislead in this case. Yes, the White House lied, but even a child can understand it was necessary to do so. And everybody learned pretty soon where the president really was. |

DAMNED LIES AND STATISTICS. (Nov 30 2003 21:11 GMT) - Source: How to Save the World Two recent editorials by economists suggest that private sector accountants aren't the only ones tempted to inflate and misstate the numbers to please their bosses:US Unemployment Rate is Actually 8% An economist at the University of Chicago argues that the US government, under both Republican and Democratic administrations, has been playing fast and loose with unemployment numbers to make themselves look better. Not only is the real unemployment rate 8% and still rising, but with temporary and part-time work making up most of the 'new' jobs, there is little doubt that under-employment, which no government dare develop an accurate measure of, has now soared past the 50% mark. |
