TiVo newbie shares his struggle (Nov 30 2003 23:09 GMT) - Some of you might be wondering why I'm writing about TiVo. After all, it's old hat right? Well, not everybody has had direct experience with TiVo or PVR technology. Some folks haven't decided whether or not they even need one. But if you spend any time watching TV and don't have TiVo yet, the time has come to free yourself from the prison of prime time and take control of your TV. |

Holiday shoppers - Beware CompUSA's draconian return policy (Nov 30 2003 23:09 GMT) - A word of warning for all you holiday buyers: be sure to read the latest return policies at your local electronics reseller. I picked up a Veo Observer networked webcam to use as a baby-cam a few weeks ago at CompUSA. Unfortunately it doesn't work in low-light like it's supposed to, and the frame rate was horrible, so I took it back for a return today. It was then that I learned CompUSA now charges 15% restocking fee on all merchandise, regardless of mint condition return. |

Apple Tablet computer on it's way? (Nov 30 2003 23:09 GMT) - Apple Computer has been decidedly absent from the tablet game. In part, this has to do with the failure of the Newton, which will always be associated in the mind of Steve Jobs with his former friend and nemesis John Sculley. "Real computers have keyboards," Steve has said a zillion times, and he'll mean it right up to the moment he changes his mind. That moment appears to be coming soon. Quanta, the Taiwanese company that makes many Apple notebooks, has been apparently switching its production to the new tablets, or at least that has been reported in the Taipei press since early this year. |
