Sometimes Digital doesn't mean digital (Dec 01 2003 15:59 GMT) - Someone must have failed to do some actual research, because Wired News has an article today about inexpensive digital cameras that includes one model that isn't digital at all. Looking at history in 3-D (Dec 01 2003 15:59 GMT) - Spiffy Vancouver Sun article on a new technique that enables archivists to look at film footage in 3-D. "The Holcus effect" uses unique lenses that allow viewers to look at two simultaneously running sets of unaltered two-dimensional film footage -- running a few frames apart -- and have their brain convert this information into a 3-D image. |

I was just reading an article about John Waters in which he says the following -- Waters zipped through the gallery, giving a visitor an informal, docent-style tour of his work -- beginning with the $4,000, black-and-green needlepoint pillow stitched with the word "Flop" that provides the exhibit with its title. Many movie producers, explains Waters, decorate their homes with needlepoint cushions, often spelling out "royalty" or "success." "My idea is that you should celebrate the worst aspect of your life. Everybody has a flop. |

Blogger News Item (Dec 01 2003 15:58 GMT) - Last night I talked to a friend in Montana, whose power was out due to inclement weather. She lives in this big old farmhouse, with real live horses in the pasture behind. It all sounds fine and romantic until the power goes out, and you have to light the wood fire by moonlight. She's a grad student and had a lot of reading to finish by today. |

Unfortunately, low quantity and poor quality (= depth) of sleep erode a mother's health and well-being, and give her a strong shove down the slippery slope toward depression. |
