NaNoWriMo Post-Mortem (Dec 02 2003 04:45 GMT) - As some of you may have noticed, I did not "win" at NaNoWriMo. November 17th, the last day I did any actual writing, my wordcount was at 22,434, or 44%. I could have gamed the system and gotten a nifty winner's icon/certificate, by writing 28000 repetitions of "badger badger badger" or the like, but it wasn't worth it. To be fair, I just checked my journal and have written at least 25,000 words here over the month. Add in my contributions to Usenet and other blogs like Amptoons, and I probably exceeded the required wordcount for the month. |

Thomas bringing home the bacon (Dec 02 2003 04:45 GMT) - Oink. Oink. Thomas bringing home the bacon "This year, Thomas was heavily involved in negotiations that led to congressional passage of President Bush's big tax cut, the Medicare prescription drug bill and shaping the stalled energy bill." — We the seniors who are betrayed by the prescription drug benefit (which benefits the makers of the prescription drugs, mostly and begins the end of Medicare) will never forgive him. |

Clara Bow (Dec 02 2003 04:44 GMT) - Clara Bow invented the notion of sex on the silver screen. She was the first actress who visibly flaunted her sex appeal and, in turn, became the most talked-about resident of Hollywood. Idolized by Louise Brooks in the 20s, Marilyn Monroe in the 50s, and Madonna in the 80s, Clara was an icon of sexual freedom for women everywhere. But beneath Clara's radiant, carefree laughter hid a pain that she couldn't ignore forever. |

(Dec 02 2003 04:41 GMT) - It Doesn't Start in Kashmir, and It Never Ends Well: "Yet the danger is that Indian and Pakistani leaders still believe it possible to have a small conventional conflict.
