World's largest known prime number ... (Dec 03 2003 01:59 GMT) - World's largest known prime number was discovered by a grad student at Michigan State who was participating in the Gimps (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) project. The 6,320,430 digits of the number would take 5 weeks to write out in longhand, and would stretch 20 kilometers... |

Write 500 times: Skools in Louisiana suk (Dec 03 2003 01:57 GMT) - 'Gay' Is Not a Dirty Word. The ACLU is outing a Louisiana Elementary school which punished a second grader for using the word "gay" when answering a classmate's question about his family. Not only did the teacher freak, sending little Marcus to the principal's office for using a " |

it's a Dell dude! (Dec 03 2003 01:57 GMT) - A Dell with a 2GHz Pentium processor owned by a Michigan State University student has found the world's largest prime number -- containing more than 6.3 million digits. The student was loaning his extra computer cycles to the GIMPS project [sort of like SETI and other monster farms]. Here's a web page he created about palindromic prime numbers before he became Mr. Biggest Prime Number Guy. |

WebResourceAttribute should be ResourceAttribute? (Dec 03 2003 01:57 GMT) - Nikhil gives a great overview of the problems that the web resource attribute is intended to solve. I think the idea is pretty cool, though the execution could definately be a bit better (especially considering upcoming OS metadata enhancements). My main question is why is all this stuff being done only on the web side through the web resource request handler? The ASP. |

Problems for press in Aceh (Dec 03 2003 01:56 GMT) - The Indonesian government is preventing journalists from reporting on its military incursion into Aceh, where grave human rights violations are taking place, says a report released by Human Rights Watch. "Aceh Under Martial Law: Muzzling the Messengers - Attacks and Restrictions on the Media" documents press-freedom violations that have occurred since the Indonesian government declared martial law in the northwestern province on 19 May 2003. Human Rights Watch says security forces have verbally and physically intimidated journalists in Aceh, and arbitrarily detained reporters in the field. Severe restrictions have also been placed on foreign correspondents, while diplomats, human rights organisations and United Nations officials have been denied entry into Aceh. |

Libs in paradise (Dec 03 2003 01:56 GMT) - Henry Haroutunian -- was there ever a public official of such hypocritical baying, such outrageously untrustworthy baying? But with George W. Bush you get the sense that this is one who will wander into greatness. Refusing to stand behind the... |

Simple Addition (Dec 03 2003 01:56 GMT) - The standard female reaction to an offhanded remark about the Olsen Twins is "Ew, that's so gross, they're just 17." Ah, women. Do you not realize the "Law of Addition"? According to the Official Man Dictionary (tm), the Law of Addition is defined as follows: Law of Addition: |

Token (Dec 03 2003 01:56 GMT) - I was thinking about "Token" from South Park (pictured below), and something occurred to me. Have you noticed how all beer commercials now feature groups of four guys -- three white guys and one black guy? I have no problem with this... but I think the lack of four white guys, two and two, one and three, or just four black guys is a bit suspect. It makes that one guy seem like more of a token. |

See No Evil (Dec 03 2003 01:55 GMT) - I like this. Not because it's about Bush, but because it's about the ideological divide between those with divergent worldviews about the nature of man. These explanations no doubt have something to do with why the Left despises Bush. But there is more to their hatred than is generally understood something more fundamental is at work. Almost all modern liberal thought begins with the bedrock assumption that humans are basically good. |
