Qucktime Streaming (Dec 03 2003 18:25 GMT) - After much procrastination I've final correctly configured the quicktime server on our secondary server to work on port 80. Mobile Game Piracy: Lessons for the Industry (Dec 03 2003 18:24 GMT) - Okay, so I debated writing this for a bit, but decided that writing a little expose on the problem of illegal copies of games on mobile phones was needed. But there's definitely a fine line between talking about specifics and outright advocacy. I'm eager to show some of this stuff off because I'm just amazed it's possible. But I don't want to encourage this sort of thing because it's bad for the industry as a whole and just wrong. It's a real problem though, and I don't think most people are aware the extent to which pirated software is playing a part in the burgeoning mobile applications industry. |

Russian about-face on Kyoto (Dec 03 2003 18:24 GMT) - Russia will not ratify Kyoto in present form: Kremlin After promising the world it would, Russia has decided that it will now not ratify the Kyoto Accord: Russia said it will not ratify the UN Kyoto Protocol in its present form because it would hamper the country's economic growth, in a major blow to the global accord on reducing greenhouse gases. It is impossible to undertake responsibilities that place serious limits on the country's growth," the advisor said, insisting that it would be unfair to Russia to curb emissions and stymie its own growth while other nations which account for the bulk of global emissions refuse to join the pact. Russian ratification of the 1997 Kyoto accord is needed to bring it into force worldwide, but since indicating at a world summit last year that it would probably ratify the deal, it has issued mixed signals on the issue. |

Reading deleted pages with Mozilla (Dec 03 2003 18:20 GMT) - After reading a MetaFilter discussion of a FAQ page on Ralph Nader's campaign Web site, I checked back later to find out that the page had been deleted (presumably in response to the attention it was getting). This brings up a cool Mozilla trick that probably works in Internet Explorer: When you know a page that you read recently has been deleted or altered, you can bring up the last version you saw by doing this before visiting the site again: Go offline by choosing File, Work Offline, then click the link. You'll see the cached copy of the page. |
