- In my opinion the nowadays politic sytuation all over world isn't better than over 10 years ago when there were two great country with big army. It isn't mistery that now the most powerful country all over world is USA and it takes advantages of this fact - everybody has heard about Afganistan or Iraq. And it isn't true that this actions are because of terrorism and for peace. The main reason of present USA army in Iraq are oil and money. Every war is a business.

The End Of The Laptop? (Dec 04 2003 02:34 GMT)

- Home servers and smartphones will eventually replace notebook computers for most users First, people had computers at work. Next, they got them at home. Eventually, the work computer became a notebook, or one was added. This allowed mobility, and a scan of any airport will tell you how successful the notebook has been. The next step is to eliminate the notebook and go back to a home pc with access via your smartphone.

Sorry for the outage; the ... (Dec 04 2003 02:33 GMT)

- Sorry for the outage; the site's been down for almost a month. I am victim to both my own stupidity and a confluence of low probability events. Three of my big hard drives in two machines failed in within two weeks of each other. One drive just clicks repeatedly when power is supplied, one doesn't spin up at all and the third has a visibly scorched chip on it's controller.

Where the Action Is: The Foundations of Embodied Interaction (Dec 04 2003 02:33 GMT)

- This dovetailed nicely with the Dourish book I just finished (and will review soon). Turkle and Papert are tantalizingly close to realizing the important role that tangible interfaces can play in teaching computation. They constantly discuss the importance of the concrete, how some people treat programming elements as "almost tactile", but never quite suggest that learning interfaces should be actually tactile. This was written several years before Ullmer and Ishii's seminal tangible bits pap ...

New X-Men: Imperial (New X-Men) (Dec 04 2003 02:33 GMT)

- New comics Wednesday - the issue of NEW X-MEN that was supposed to come out last week was in, as well as issue #5 (of 6) of EMPIRE. I don't want to spoil NEW X-MEN for Lee, who I think is on Imperial or possibly the Riot at Xavier's collection, so let's just say that the hints that the villain's plans are going to go very badly wrong in previous issues seem to have progressed to huge blinking neon signs. One thing Morrison's played with is recasting the humans vs. mutants plotline that hasn't go ...

Mortal Souls (Dec 04 2003 02:33 GMT)

- While I collect my thoughts on The Book of Eibon, I thought I'd post about my latest comics purchase, Steven Grant's Mortal Souls. I'm not sure if the first Steven Grant comic I read was Moon Knight (I think I was reading the Doug Moench issues, but not sure) or Whisper (the First Comics incarnation). I picked up First Comics' Twilight Man, looked through Badlands. Grant's got a good ear for dialogue, he can write complex plots and he's got a weakness for crime stories.
