Librarians try puttin' on the Ritz (Dec 04 2003 19:59 GMT) - The Palm Beach Post asks if the city wants a five-star library, shouldn't it offer five-star service, too? Library Director Pam Sandlian Smith agrees, so she and nine staff members spent Wednesday at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, trying to learn how a five-star hotel earns its stars, and how a public library might adopt some of those hospitality secrets. "We need to have the feeling of the hospitality industry," Smith reasoned. "I think library schools sometimes don't focus enough on that particular part of what we're really all about. I think librarians tend to be introverts, but we're about presentation and hospitality and service, too. |
