Measuring success (Dec 05 2003 03:59 GMT) - I've always thought that a company that is serious about controlling workers’ compensation costs and losses must be serious about measuring its performance, or else how will success be known? shopping for a used car (Dec 05 2003 03:58 GMT) - Over the last few weeks I've seen a lot of used cars. While my parking lot is currently full, my friend Andrew was sadly car-less. No longer an NYC resident, he finally got around to getting a driver's license and a car to go with it. His budget was a pretty hefty sum, which in theory gave us lots to choose from. Initially, I thought he'd be looking for something cheap, so I was steering him towards an early 90s Acura Integra. |

Compassion or a Passion for Cash? (Dec 05 2003 03:57 GMT) - When organizations dedicated to community service embrace business culture, compassion for others turns into a passion for cash in no time. This health care worker has experienced the inevitable fallout. In a frank commentary, she speaks bluntly about the effect of these unholy alliances on workers and on those who support the organizations. Unions take note. Heavy Things (Dec 05 2003 03:56 GMT) - Things have fallen down on me Heavy things I could not see When I finally came around Something small would pin me down When I tried To step aside I moved to where they'd hoped I'd be. This year has come at a heavy cost to me, and the price I now have to pay may be greater than I can withstand. I still haven't fully processed what's happened today, but I do know that doing the best thing is sometimes the hardest thing. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do about this site right now. Part of me wants to curl up into a ball and ignore everything, another wants to pretend like nothing is happening, another wants to sit here and throw a pity party. |

That makes very little sense as those people who live in the burbs need to get to their jobs in DC via Metro. What good is a subway that doesn't work correctly. 2.
