Weblogs as common knowledge (Dec 06 2003 08:58 GMT) - I was reading this weeks Newsweek. In his column Fareed Zakaria writes about the former Bush speechwriter David Frum, and "en passant" mentions his weblog - WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION! So now the word weblog is part of common American knowledge. I'm impressed. If I mention blogging, blogs or weblogs to clients or most of my collegues - I must explain. |

Scoble Update (Dec 06 2003 08:51 GMT) - OK, I'm outta here for the weekend. We're driving down to Silicon Valley in the morning. Maryam's mom is having brain surgery on Monday at Stanford Hospital and Maryam will stay down there for a while taking care of her and she needs a car. Hey, that means I'll be alone at home next week. Anyone got some fun things to do? |

NewsForge: The programmer as (starving) artist (Dec 06 2003 08:49 GMT) - This Newsforge article by Robin 'Roblimo' Miller makes the comparison between programmers and traditional creators such as artists, musicians, and journalists. Imagine a world where basic computer programming skills are as common as basic soccer or writing skills are today, and computers are as common as pens or soccer balls. What percentage of literate people manage to make their livings as writers? What percentage of people who can kick a soccer ball earn their livings playing soccer? What percentage of all the people who can bang out a few guitar chords earn their livings as musicians? |
