Yahoo Proposes New Internet Anti-Spam Structure (Dec 06 2003 09:59 GMT) - Reuters Says Yahoo! said it is working on technology to combat e-mail spam by changing the way the Internet works to require authentication of a message's sender. Yahoo said its "Domain Keys" software, which it hopes to launch in 2004, will be made available freely to the developers of the Web's major open-source e-mail software and systems. Under Yahoo's new architecture, a system sending an e-mail message would embed a secure, private key in a message header. The receiving system would check the Internet's Domain Name System for the public key registered to the sending domain. |

Thinking ahead to LISNews story 10k - Win Big Prizes!! (Dec 06 2003 09:59 GMT) - We currently have 8940 stories in the ol' LISNews db. A pretty decent collection, if I do say so myself... Looking ahead 1160 stories, I'd like to post a fun little collection of things that say "10K". So I'm asking all LISNewsterz to get out their digital cameras, crayons, colored pencils, Photoshop or MS Paint and send us something that shows us how happy you are that we hit 10,000 stories. Think of it as sort of a Human Clock, but much simpler. |

CSS Banner Centering Troubles (Dec 06 2003 09:57 GMT) - The banner isn't centering properly. I wonder what I'm doing wrong in CSS. I just have a DIV with the image in it. Then I set that DIV with the #banner in my CSS style sheet. Grr, I can't play with it anymore. |

Faith-based prisons (Dec 06 2003 09:55 GMT) - I seem to remember Watergate criminal Chuck Coulson promoting mandatory prison Bible study and at least one state adopting it. Can’t help but wonder if this won’t lead to a few mini-crusades and religious wars behind bars. TALLAHASSEE — |

Yamaha's new Gizmos (Dec 06 2003 09:55 GMT) - The Australian site "Gizmo" has a great overview of five interesting electric two-wheelers shown by Yamaha at the recent Tokyo Motor Show. They range from an electric bicycle that plays music while you ride to a folding scooter to a fuel-cell bike that runs on a mix of methanol and water. |

Moto-taxis (Dec 06 2003 09:55 GMT) - ! Mike Werner's Paris-based "Bikes in the Fast Lane" blog reports today on the prevalence of motorcycle taxis there. Lane-splitting through rush-hour Paris traffic on a Goldwing, presumably with an expert at the controls, would certainly be an unforgettable experience. Seems like this business would be enhanced by an adjustable-size Aerostich-type suit for passengers. |

More on the Bombardier Embrio (Dec 06 2003 09:55 GMT) - Wired News recently posted a story with more information about the Bombardier Embrio -- including a promotional video clip from Bombardier which, unfortunately, does not include a rolling Embrio. The article does contain this intriguing thought: "Some experts speculate that as streets become more crowded and alternative energy sources are developed, we'll see an entirely new lane emerge to accommodate miniature one-person vehicles." That may be just the sort of thing Dean Kamen had in mind with the Segway. But where do motorcycles fit into the picture? |

Ducati using the web (Dec 06 2003 09:55 GMT) - Fortune magazine has a story on how Ducati is increasing its use of the web to garner feedback on concept models: Automakers have long placed market researchers with clipboards near their show car displays to record the public’s reactions, and so do motorcycle makers including Ducati. But by asking web surfers to share their thoughts, the company’s getting a global take on how its new product ideas may actually fly in the marketplace. This seems a terribly obvious thing to do, since it's practically free, yet the article claims only Ducati is doing it. However, it's likely that all manufacturers pay some heed to what is said online about their concept bikes, whether or not they actively solicit comments. |
