Losing the plot (Dec 06 2003 23:00 GMT) - I've just been watching the first half of Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine and got such a strong intuition of a society which has lost the plot. And I don't just mean the nutters with guns. I mean the good... |

On the subject of cheese... (Dec 06 2003 23:00 GMT) - This may sound like a bit of an advert, but frankly I don't care. You have to be able to express joy in the things you like, I think, commercial or not. Anyway, every year shortly before Christmas I pop into Neal's Yard Dairy and get a selection of cheeses to take up to my family in Norfolk. It's become a bit of a ritual. There's something really primal and satisfying about bringing food back for a significant meal - particularly one so associated with the winter solstice and the rebirth of the sun (oh and all that Christian stuff I guess). |

Short prose excerpt (Dec 06 2003 23:00 GMT) - "It's strange" he thought as he stared at the paperwork in front of him, "but no matter how bad a shape my life is in, when I look at her, it seems like everything's going to be alright." He sighed, missing her already. Life was definately more fun when she was around. Even paperwork became fun, not the endless slog that it usually felt like. With effort he he removed himself from the sofa and walked over to the CD player. |

Home now (Dec 06 2003 23:00 GMT) - Travelling took a stupefying 36 hours, covering 4 airports (Christchurch, Sydney, Singapore and Heathrow), 13 hours difference in time zones, countless meals from plastic trays and one seriously achy back. Good to be home though (it's freezing here though innit), just going through my photos and converting them to JPEG format from Canon's RAW format. They seem to have come out well enough. I took my video out lead with me and managed to see most of them on various Motel TV sets while out there, but there's no substitute for seeing them on a monitor. I am gonna burn some of the better ones to CD then have prints made up of them. |
