China Premier Accuses Taiwan of Scheme (Dec 07 2003 20:20 GMT) - China's Premier Wen Jiabao accused Taiwan's leaders Sunday of attempting to use democratic practices like an upcoming referendum as "a cover" to achieve independence. |

Directx futures (Dec 07 2003 20:18 GMT) - a lot of this goes right over my head -- Beyond3D - Which was nice. -- but i am struck by the amount of useful innovation happening in graphics processing. Seems like people have lots of ideas to soak up many more iterations of Moore's Law on the graphics side of my PC. Whereas the future for my CPU MIPs doesn't seem quite as innovative. |

Meatspace Question (Dec 07 2003 20:16 GMT) - Ok, here's the deal regarding this month's Meatspace: Disneyland is kind of expensive, and we're all spending enough $$ because of Christmas as it is...perhaps we should put Disney off for a month or so (I'm thinking January or February)... |

A few 'new' edublogs (Dec 07 2003 20:15 GMT) - Last week Alan was lamenting the seeming dissappearance of a number of formerly prolific edubloggers. I too had wondered where many people had disappeared to, though I seem to recall from my days 'inside' the institution that November and December can be particularly hectic times. In the spirit of widening the circle, here's a few other educational bloggers I have stumbled on to recently, and that I haven't seen mentioned widely yet: "eLearning Eclectic" http://gordmackenzie. |

Over The Moon (Dec 07 2003 20:13 GMT) - Legit Reviews: "Over the Moon" never quite reaches the heights of giddy humor it seems to promise. It's amusing, yes, but here's the brutal truth about these comedies: There's simply no reason for them to exist except to debilitate us with laughter, and when we walk away merely amused, there's a residual feeling of disappintment. |

The Man From Nebraska (Dec 07 2003 20:13 GMT) - Legit Reviews: An agnostic version of a Medieval morality drama, the brooding new play "The Man From Nebraska" purports to be a drama about a middle-aged Nebraska insurance agent's sudden loss of his lifelong religious faith. The huge premiere Steppenwolf production is such an impressive endeavor that it covers up many of the play's sins. |

The Sex Habits of American Women (Dec 07 2003 20:13 GMT) - Legit Reviews: An intriguing seriocomedy about the stultifying sexual morality and gender roles in place around the time Alfred Kinsey released his academic studies, "The Sex Habits of American Woman" offers uneven but generally satisfactory rewards. The ending needs work but this play is a rare intelligent new one with direct appeal to older audiences. |

Take A Chance On Me (Dec 07 2003 20:13 GMT) - Legit Reviews: Dinner theater is the most likely destination for "Take a Chance on Me," the English comedy that isn't yet another exercise in karaoke Abba. Taking the world of speed dating as his starting point, scribe Roger Hall spends rather more time than necessary charting the romantic travails of six lovesick Londoners. |

(Dec 07 2003 20:11 GMT) - From Revolution to Reconstruction - The Anti-Federalist Papers - part of a "Hypertext in American History" at The Department of Humanities Computing, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. I have not yet read the Federalist or Anti-Federalist Papers. More's the shame. [End the War on Freedom] I have a copy of the Federalist Papers in HyperCard format, but I hadn't found an electronic copy of the Anti-Federalist papers. This will provide some reading material for the next few days. |
